What is local number portability?
Local number portability is a government mandate that allows customers with eligible phone numbers to retain their phone numbers when changing service providers.
Should I cancel my existing service before porting
No, you must NOT cancel your service with your current local carrier because your number must remain active in order to be ported.
Please note: After the number porting has been successfully completed, you will no longer have service under that number with your previous provider.
However, you may be responsible to your previous service provider for any contractual requirements and applicable charges.
What happens to calls before porting?
Before number porting is completed, you are only able to make calls from Inter-Active Telecom home phone, and your phone service with previous local carrier will keep working.
Upon completion of the porting, you'll be able to make and receive calls from Inter-Active Telecom home phone.
If you are using Bell DSL Internet, before the number porting process is finished, you need to call Bell to order Dry Loop to make sure your Internet does not get disconnected.
If your Internet gets disconnected after the process, you may contact us or login to your web portal to temperarily forward your incoming calls to your cell phone or other numbers until your Internet is back to service.
